Our beginners Fitness Guide: How to get back in shape after the pandemic blues
Don’t be overwhelmed. Whether you’ve never worked out before, or you’re trying to get back into the proper mindset. We’re here to help.
You might be thinking about the meatheads, the enthusiasts, powerlifters and you feel like you’re going to stick out like a sore thumb. Not to mention actually doing the workouts. What if my form is improper? What if the person beside me is bench-pressing 200 plus pounds and I’m just there lifting a 5-pound dumbbell? What if-
Stop.
Everyone has to start somewhere. Don’t worry about all the “What If’s”. Gym goers aren’t focused on other people anyways, they are there for themselves, just like you. So get all of that out of your head.
Start with a little & be consistent. Don’t daydream about high amounts of reps all day. Set aside a few minutes and just try one exercise. It doesn’t matter where you start or how much you start off with. You just need to start period.
Setting expectations to lift a certain amount or run for a certain period of time is idealistic. Whether you can do 2 pushups or 200 pushups, it just matters that you’re doing them at all and being consistent.
Our advice? If you’ve never worked out, start at home with some basic workouts. We have a variety of workouts at various skill levels that you can try out on our YouTube channel and then when you’re ready to really start making progress you should look to join one of your local gyms.
Check your diet. Eating properly, and the right amounts is key to any fitness lifestyle. Start by bringing some awareness to the foods that you are eating, and putting a conscious effort into what you’re consuming to fuel your body.
This doesn’t mean you can’t have a cheat meal here and there, but understand that in order to make progress you’ll have to be more aware of how many times and what you’re putting it into your body.
Don’t underestimate the value a gym and personal trainer has on your diet. Getting started with both a gym & personal trainer gets you access to years of structure and foundation, it’s almost like a cheat code. Having the right trainer will give you insight into how to build a diet that works for you and most importantly: tastes good!
Don’t get bamboozled by online gurus. At the start its very convenient to watch online fitness gurus along with the plethora of advice they have to offer. Although, the reality of the matter is, they are only going to help you so much from behind a screen.
There’s nothing wrong with online fitness gurus, although in order to make sure you’re not wasting your own time you need to combine this with real personal training. Your time is valuable so treat it that way. Going to the gym is a great step and having a personal trainer will speed up your entire fitness journey.
Why join a gym? Well, working out at the gym is not only an opportunity to build your physique, but it’s a great way to join a community that prioritizes health, growth and fitness success. But firstly, it’s important to find the gym that’s right for you.
Find something in your budget. Many gyms have expensive trainer programs that are priced in on top of the membership fee you’re already paying. Find something that works for you, is within your budget and make sure to do your research.
Find something that fits your lifestyle. Make sure the facility hours and classes work for your schedule. Do you have an hour for a class or do you want a quick 20- minute burn? Find what works for you!
Find one with real experts. Make sure you are comfortable with the class instructors and personal trainers and that they're all certified by an accredited institution.
Our advice? Find a gym that provides a deal for membership and personal training for you and a friend or the entire family. Join a gym that provides strategically placed classes that fit into your schedule and lastly, check their resume.
